The Program is staffed by experienced staff and supervised by the General Manager of Undisputed and UK-1 Program Director. This staff works together to help each child grow in a structured, supportive, highly disciplined and nurturing atmosphere.


Ted Johnson - Director of Undisputed Kids Foundation

Ted Johnson started  Undisputed Gym Downtown in June 2008.   
He has always been a fan of the Boxing and the Martial Arts.  Ted worked for Harley Davidson for more than 6 years, striving for perfection as a mechanic and appllying his craft.  While at Harley Davidson Mr. Johnson put aside money from his paycheck with the hopes of opening up his own gym someday.  However, he did not want to force it.  Ted wanted to do open up a fitness gym when the right opportunity presented itself; that  opportunity came in June of 2008 when Ted opened up the Undisputed Gym Downtown.  A place where fighters could train in a comfortable environment and people who wanted to improve upon their fitness could workout.   Mr. Johnson wanted Undisuputed to be more than just a gym but a place where fighters of all levels could call home. 
Creating a non-profit for children was far from the initial plan when opening up Undisputed Downtown.  However, Ted recognized that the local neighborhood was severely economically challenged.  He saw the kids were effected by having nothing to positively occupy their time, surrounded by drugs, and homelessness.  Many of  the neighboorhood kids would come by the gym and watch ongoing fitness classes from outside because their families could not afford a membership to workout.
As a business owner Ted Johnson wanted the kids to have an opportunity to work out and train. Mr. Johnson felt that if he had the ability to provide services to children then it was necessary to find a way how to do it.  Then came the creation of The Undisputed Kids Foundation, Inc.  A natural progression of Mr. Johnson’s vision to make a differncece.


Brett Albee

Brett Albee- Head Muay thai Instructor Undisputed downtown; Director, Undisputed Kids Program

  • Born in Providence, Rhode Island
  • Trained in karate at the age of seven
  • Began training Muay Thai in Virginia Beach, VA at LINXX Academy in 1999.
  • Teaching Muay Thai for past eight years both children and adults in Virginia Beach, Va and Puerto Rico.
  • Fought for WKA amateur Muay Thai national team.
  • Graduated with Master’s Degree in Clinical Community Psychology
  • Worked as intern for Virginia Department of Health’s Child Development Lab
  • Moved to San Diego in 2008 to begin professional MMA career.
  • Currently, head Muay Thai instructor for Undisputed Downtown.




Andy Wang- Head Grappling/ BJJ Instructor

  • Originally born in Taiwan, Andy emigrated to Los Angeles with his family at age of 1978 1year old
  • began studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the famous Machado Brothers in Los Angeles following high school in 1997
  • Train with many noted BJJ instructors and teams such as the Relson Gracie Academy, rAw Wrestling, Grappling Unlimited Hawaii, Purebred Japan, VMAT wrestling club
  • Received his Black Belt in BJJ from Baret Yoshida in 2004.
  • Participant in The Ultimate fighter 5 Reality Show.
  • Professional MMA fighter since 2000 age 22.
  • Competitor in Ultimate Fighting Championship, Shooto Japan, Pancrase Japan and Icon
  • Certified and credentialed high school social studies teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District for several years.

 

Ed “9mm” Ratcliff-  Muay Thai Instructor/ MMA Instructor

  • Born in Southside Chicago, Illinois
  • Mother was a martial arts instructor who started teaching Ed since he was a baby.
  • Holds black belts in Shorin-Ryu Karate and Tae Kwon Do.
  • Moved  to San Diego, Ca to try out for the famous Lion’s Den in 2001 at the age of 17 years old.
  • Professional MMA fighter at the age of 18 years old
  • Starred in various television commercials and shows,  clothing line videos : Tribal Clothing and Stars and Straps
  • Currently, Muay Thai instructor for Undisputed Downtown and North Park locations.

Dave Ventura
Dave Ventura-  Head Boxing Instructor

  • Born and raised in Southeast San Diego, Ca.
  • Learned boxing at the age of 12 years old for self defense.
  • Has been an amateur boxer for USA Boxing Association since 1991.
  • Golden Gloves Champion 1993 and 1994.
  • Opened first boxing gym in 1996 at the age of nineteen years old.
  • Has been a boxing trainer for the past thirteen years.
  • Currently,  boxing trainer for Undisputed downtown’s kid and adult classes.
